Shimano Stella Reels
A new level of Stella performance
Shimano’s Stella series of threadline reels enjoys a reputation as the absolute pinnacle of high-performance casting and jigging reels.
Well, that pinnacle just grew higher! They say their new Stella SWB series will change the way people think about spinning reels – forever. Marlin, tuna, door-size giant trevally and those once uncatchable monster dogtooth tuna are now comfortably within reach of these extreme threadline reels.
The new Stella series incorporates a number of very special technologies, including Shimano’s X-Ship feature that enhances power transmission through the gears for increased cranking power, and 14 self-aligning bearings make line retrieval as effortless as can be, even under punishing loads. A new 20 per cent thicker barrier-gear with a proprietary surface coating has made it 38 per cent stronger than the existing Stella SW.
Like the use of high-rigidity aluminium in the body, which Shimano say is impervious to the effects of saltwater, the rotor, titanium bail wire and a diamond-like carbon bail-roller all combine to deliver rigidity, strength and power, to make fishing with deep-water jigs and high-resistance lures like poppers so much easier.
Shimano’s proprietary gaskets and rubber seal system keeps even water at high pressure out of the reel, meaning that they will continue to perform regardless of the conditions. The X-Touch Drag system is very serious. Its coil-wave spring and increased washer size means enhanced drag consistency at every compression level, but especially at the high end where greater control is needed.
There are 13 Stella reels in the new line-up, offering you the option of higher speed or more low-down grunt, tailored to suit your fishing technique or target species. The 30000XWB (as shown) is the largest, carrying at least 600m of 80lb Power Pro braid and with a 4.4 to 1 gear ratio providing a retrieve speed of 131cm with each revolution of the handle.
