The gearing is also upgraded, with Shimano’s exclusive Hagane Gear providing a cold-forged aluminium drive gear instead of the previous die-cast gear. Shimano’s X-Ship bearing-supported pinion gear system, coupled with four SA-RB bearings and a roller bearing, is also a major advance. Shimano’s proprietary XT7 body keeps the weight down, while the one-piece handle and round handle knob delivers remarkably easy winding. The lip design of the AR-C Spool increases casting distance by allowing the line to flow out in smaller loops, without wind knots, and with less slap on the rod’s stripper guide.
The two largest reels in the series, the Socorro SW 8000 and 10,000, have a gear ratio of 4.9:1 and line capacities of around 270m of 50lb and 300m of 65lb Power Pro braid respectively. With their list of features, these reels represent amazing value for money, particularly since they are covered by Shimano’s 10-year reel warranty.
