Shimano Baitrunner OC Series Reel
Shimano Australia is releasing one of their most exciting new products in years: the OC series of Baitrunner reels.
Since their introduction, Shimano’s phenomenally successful Baitrunner threadline reels introduced a far more successful way to free-spool live or dead baits, a system that has revolutionised fishing around the world.
The Baitrunner system has deep roots in the Australian fishing scene as the concept was the brainchild of John Dunphy, Shimano’s innovative Aussie distributor.
The new Baitrunner OC (or Oceania) is an upgraded series that has been specifically designed to deal with the strength of Australian species. It comprises a lot of the features that have made previous Baitrunners so popular, but it also comprises advanced technologies that are going to take this range of reels well into the future.
The series comes in a range of sizes: 4000, 6000, 8000 and a large 12,000 size that holds 500m of 50lb Power Pro braid. All models feature a replaceable spool clicker, vari-speed oscillation (to make sure that you get a perfect line lay whether using braid or mono) and the Propulsion line management system to give you extra casting distance. A major change in this upgraded design is that the Baitrunner lever actually moves toward the body of the reel when you wind the handle and engage the drag and gearing system. Maintenance on the reels has been made a lot easier with the inclusion of an easy-access oil maintenance port. All models feature three double-sided, shielded, stainless steel bearings and an anti-reverse bearing.
