Mercury Diesel’s 150hp and 170hp Engines Review

Mercury Diesel has expanded its engine options with the release of new 150hp and 170hp variants of its proven two-litre Inline-4 platform.

The Mercury diesel 150hp & 170hp engines are reliable, compact and robust.

These new engines are perfect for both recreational and light commercial applications. They are available as both inboards and sterndrives, and are fully compatible with Mercury’s DTS (Digital Throttle & Shift) technology.

The new models also boast variable geometry turbo (VGT) technology, which provides peak torque at 2000rpm, so that turbo-lag virtually disappears, and your boat gets to plane faster.

Mercury’s innovative technology provides increased power-to-weight ratios, cleaner starts and less noise, while eliminating the smoke and smell often associated with diesel engines.

All offer the latest Common Rail Fuel Injection technology and are fully Mercury SmartCraft-compatible.

This means boaters will be able to access dozens of engine, boat and navigation functions through Mercury’s extensive selection of SmartCraft digital gauges and optional multi-function displays.

The new Mercury diesel 150hp & 170hp engines are only 80cms long and 71cms wide and are compact enough to fit in virtually any installation.

They have been built on the same well-proven two-litre Inline-4 platform as the existing 115hp and 130hp models, so reliability is assured.

Producing only 68 decibels, they are quieter than a normal conversation, and a closed cooling system increases engine longevity by keeping corrosion at bay.
