IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) Rules Explained

Holding The Swivel On A Leader

QUESTION:

Holding the swivel on a leader

I understand that holding devices on leaders, such as toggles, loops and other such contraptions are not IGFA legal. However, I have a lower section on my wind-on leader that is attached to the top section with a fairly large swivel. Is a crew member allowed to grab or hold on to this connection when tracing a fish?

ANSWER:

The IGFA does not consider a swivel connecting the two sections of your wind-on leader as a ‘holding device’, and there is nothing to prevent you or a crew member from grabbing this as you trace your fish.
